On Saturday, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) gave a rousing speech at the Tax March in Washington, D.C.
After she announced that she neither respects nor trusts this president, Waters declared that she will “fight every day until he is impeached” and led protesters in multiple rounds of an “Impeach 45” chant.
However, on Tuesday, Waters seemed to be singing a different tune during an interview with MSNBC’s Craig Melvin.
After she outlined the questions surrounding President Donald Trump’s alleged impeachable offenses, Melvin asked if people should wait to call for impeachment until those questions are answered.
Given her statements only a few days earlier, Waters responded to his question with an odd clarifier and said:
“I have not called for impeachment.”
Saturday wasn’t the first time she discussed trying to remove Trump from office. Waters has tweeted about impeachment and retweeted articles about her talking about impeaching the president multiple times:
Get ready for impeachment.

Despite evidence and the MSNBC anchor’s reminder of a tweet that said she will “fight every day until he’s impeached,” Waters continued to clarify what she really said:
“Here’s what I’ve said: I’ve said that we need the information, we need to connect the dots, we need the facts in order to do the impeachment. And I’m going to work every day to try and help get those facts and to reveal them to our public until, of course, impeachment has taken place.”
The California representative went on to claim that Millennials have “adopted” her because she “speaks truth to power.”
