In an interview with The Washington Times, Trump admitted that his presidency has been a cause of strain on his family, especially for his wife, Melania, and their son, Barron.
When asked why Melania and Barron stayed behind and did not move into the White House, Trump said:
“He likes playing on his soccer team in New York, they’re all of his friends, and you know he’ll be taken away from that team. We didn’t want to do it in the middle of a season.”
According to the New York City police commissioner, it costs the NYPD between $127,000 and $146,000 per day to protect Melania and Barron. Last month, the Secret Service requested an additional $60 million in funding to protect the Trump family.
Trump also touched on the fact that he believes Melania has been treated unfairly by the media. “Really unfairly,” he explained. “She’s a high-quality person. She’s been amazing for the country.” Trump did not reference how Melania has been amazing for the country, other than pilfering taxpayer dollars to continue living in her high rise apartment in New York City.
By contrast, Michelle Obama spearheaded the “Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act,” aimed at improving nutrition standards and reducing childhood obesity. The Trump administration is currently looking to relax those standards, thereby destroying Michelle Obama’s legacy as First Lady.
At an unprecedented cost to American taxpayers, though, we hope that soccer team is as good on the field as Donald is on the golf course.
