Republicans across the board are learning the hard way that since they’ve gained control of all three branches of government, they’re going to be held accountable by the people they ostensibly represent.
The cowardly conservative sell-votes who sit in Congress are coming to grips with the fact that their agenda of class warfare on behalf of the ultrawealthy is extremely unpopular with voters – and they can’t bear to take responsibility for their actions, hiding from the people and refusing to hold town halls.
So the people are being forced to resort to unconventional measures to get the attention of the people they chose to represent their interests in Congress.
Sen. Cory Gardner (R-CO), a close ally of President Trump, is one of the many Republicans who have been dodging their constituents for months now – so the people took matters into their own hands.
When Gardner returned to Colorado Springs for a members-only meeting with the Chamber of Commerce, protesters crashed the party in a beautiful way:
Three organizations chipped in the $250 to hire the band, which sung a love song to Gardner in a plea for him to come back them and hold a town hall meeting.
Hilda Nucete, director at Conservation Colorado, says that “It was a gift,” explaining that the song, “Where Are You My Heart,” is about “when the guy really messes up and you’re trying to get back the girl, so we’re trying to get (Gardner) to fall in love with us again.”
While we applaud her efforts, it remains a sad fact that Republicans are only loyal to the source of their last check. But this mariachi band is a clear sign to Gardner that it’s not going to be business as usual from here on out.
No more can Republicans sit back collecting checks from corporate donors while relentlessly criticizing everything the Democrats did without actually putting forth any practical replacements. They’ve got to produce – and the people are making it clear that they’re going to be held accountable.
